Facebook Introduces 360 Photos

Earlier this month, Facebook rolled out a new feature that allows users to upload 360-degree photos. It’s a new way to share experiences, and another step in the direction of being a completely visual platform. Mark Zuckerberg himself has stated that Facebook will be “mostly video” by 2019.

How Does 360 Photos Work?

The new feature is simple and intuitive.

All you need to do is take a panorama with your phone or capture a 360-degree photo using a 360 app or camera. You can then post the photo on Facebook just as you would any normal photo. The picture is converted into an immersive, 360-degree experience that people can explore just as if they were there!

Facebook gives detailed instructions on how to use 360 Photos as well as information about viewing the photos on specific devices here.

Is 360 Content New?

While 360 content isn’t new, many people have not had the capacity to create 360 videos. With new features and tools like 360 Photos, however, this content is becoming easier to create and consume. As more people have the ability to enjoy this type of content either by posting it or immersing themselves in it, 360 content will become the norm.

This will be a game changer.

At the moment, there’s a lot of talk about virtual reality and immersive experiences. However, It’s still a way off for many because of the cost and the need for compatible devices. A VR capable home system costs around $1,500 at a basic level, for example. Additionally, people with older phones or poor connectivity have a more difficult time getting a 360 experience.

Is 360 Content the Future?

Regardless of these concerns, VR will be the future. This will make a difference for your brand because it will change the way you communicate with your customers. You will be responsible for providing them with immersive experiences that are positive and engaging.

The possibilities are endless, but this can also feel overwhelming. It will take time for your brand to find its place in the VR world and be successful in providing your customers with shared experiences that will make them feel connected and emotionally invested in your brand.

We encourage you to check out 360 Photos on Facebook and get a feel for how you can give your customers an immersive experience. If you need some help, give WSI Net Advantage a quick buzz at 510-687-9737. We’d be happy to answer your questions!
