The Value of Content Marketing

Content marketing is a technique where you develop and distribute the best possible content to directly engage your target market and ideal clients. It’s not so much about selling a product to your customers as it is about creating an ongoing relationship where you communicate relevant information to them as a value-added service. The theory being that the more you provide consistent, valuable content to your users without trying to push them to buy something, the more likely they are to give you their business.

One of the most critical aspects of content marketing is keyword research. The more effective your keywords, the greater your chances of increasing your visibility and driving traffic to your website. So, how do you find the best keywords for your ideal market?

In a previous post, we discussed several “Cool Tools for Keyword Research” that will help you come up with a comprehensive list, but you still need to make sure they’re relevant to your target clients. As Internet marketers, we sometimes forget that the jargon we use in our field doesn’t always reflect the terms our potential clients would use when searching for information. Try to think from your target market’s perspective. Brainstorm a list of possible keywords or phrases that your users would use then do a little research to find out how effective they might be.

One great way to see how folks are really looking for things in your market is to check out social media. Twitter’s search function, for example, is a good place to find out how your clients think and talk about topics relevant to your business. Simply input a specific subject or concept that you’re focusing on to get an idea of the conversations that are going on around your topic.

The more you know about what’s being said about the things that relate, directly or indirectly, to your business and your market, the more you’ll understand how your target consumers might be researching topics related to your services. And, when you’re able to meet your potential and current customers on their level, you’ll have a much better chance of gaining their trust and their loyalty.

Stand Out from the Crowd

As an Internet marketer, no matter how exceptional your products and services may be, it’s likely that you’re still in deep competition with a lot (and we mean, a LOT) of other businesses that offer similar services to you. Even if your product is so unique that there are only one or two other competitors, you still want customers to choose yours. So, the question is: How do you make yourself stand out from the crowd?

 

Sure, another company may have the same products, the same services and the same target market as you, but you know what they don’t have? You. That’s right. YOU are the unique thing that can make your product and services stand out above all the others in your market.

 

As you develop your marketing strategy, try to incorporate your self and your style into your message. On social media or in your blog, for example, don’t be afraid to let your personality shine. Stay true to yourself and be authentic. You are original … let people see that.

 

Develop a fantastic bio, tell your story, be a little vulnerable and allow your customers to really know whom they’re dealing with and why working with you would be so much better than your competition.

 

When you create your About Me page for your website, think about the things that made you start your company. What is it that pushed you to become an entrepreneur and focus your energy toward selling pink fuzzy bunny slippers? Why do you feel so passionate about providing your customers with comfy footwear?

 

In this world of decreasing personal contact, people crave making connections with real people. When you provide your client base with a little insight into who you are as a person, they feel better about investing their time and money in your products and services.

 

Identify your niche and reach out to your ideal market. If you’re quirky and fun, don’t hide that because you feel it’s un-business like. Isn’t that why you got out of the corporate rat race in the first place? So you could be you? This is your chance!

 

The fact is: the people you want to work with are the ones who get you and who respond to your unique style. The ones who don’t? Well, they’re not your ideal clients anyway.
